Need advice about a plum tree. This tree is huge, healthy and beautiful but may have to come down. The root system is uplifting part of a fieldstone patio. Just got an estimate for yearly pruning and it's almost $500. now including other smaller trees and dump fee. There are hundreds of shoots and it needs to be tamed LOL
I've had it shaped and cabled thru the years but this year it really took off.
I hate to cut it down. In April it looks like a popcorn tree, then flowers turn pink and then huge green leaves and plums, finally maroon leaves in fall. It's a mess maker but worth it LOL When it's covered in snow and uplit with spot floods, it's breathtaking.
So my questions are can it be uprooted to trim roots? Can I donate it somewhere and will it live in the transplant? Even if I stump grind it down, the roots are still lifting fieldstones. The tree guy says pruning has to be done in Feb. if I'm going to keep it? So, I need to figure this out soon.....any suggestions? I took some pics and will try to post them too.
