wassup people.

New here - lurking for a while. I find all of your comments illuminating.

i know the manhattan fisherpeople are out there. with little or no time to spare, i head down to the pier in long island city. I was pleasantly surprised - there are actually fish in the east river, as ive discovered. Fluke off LIC? seeing is believing. Anyone else fish around manhattan?

hehe...

nothing quite like the urban fishing experience. I grew up fishing off the beach in San Diego, its not quite the same. Time spent fishing, however, is time spent well ;) I've averaged at least 1 striper per Long Island City fishing jaunt, anyhow.
Now, what I really want to know are who are the guys fishing the drift off the rocks just south of Roosevelt Island and across from the UN- I know you guys are slamming fish or you wouldn't be making like 30 drifts.
Take me along next time?
Or maybe I should get gnarly with the kayak.

try going to bayridge brooklyn 69th street pier. i used to live there years ago on shore road right next to the pier which i think is open again. excellent spot for stripers i caught my biggest one there. if from the pier u walk towards verezano bridge on the board walk u will see many spots for fishing.(u will see rocks) it was nice there. i never ate fish from there. it was disturbing there to see how many shoolies i caught which were deformed missing fins etc. but hopefully the waters are better there now. owls head and narrows are good spots. Also u will get good sized keeper flukes their and of course pogies and blues etc. good luck

nice pictures on that website, ron

Seeing is believing.
(yesterday, in the hour and a half before sunset, I saw 4 schoolies, 5 medium blues, and 3 decent fluke pulled up off the fishing pier at Gantry park).
As you said, "this is more fun than a party boat"

Take it from me

Guys, I have fished nyc for the last 20 years. I only fish in the fall. Starting in September right thru January (depending on the year) you can fish any pier down town on any moving tide using worms or buck tails and you will catch bass LOTS OF THEM. My biggest was 30 pounds. You can fish east or west side, or the south street seaport, I haven?t fished the seaport in 10 years but no one ever questioned me. Post 9 11 might be different.
