I'd like to go porgie fishing on my kayak, are there any good spots close to shore, sheltered and with good fishing ?
I live in western Nassau , I can fish the western sound bays and out in Peconic. I've fished out in Peconic alot of times in my 16 foot aluminum boat and had good fishing in the spring. Sometimes I don't have a partner to fish with and its too much to handle a 16 footer by myself , so i'd like to take my kayak out there .
also,could I anchor a kayak ? any problems ?

Vector, the best place to go porgy fishing would be the north fork on the sound side. You can catch some real nice size porgies in that area. As for the western sound I really like the City Island/ Hart Island area. You can also find good spots around Oyster Bay.

Should you anchor up while fishing for porgies? You don't have to but if you want to catch a lot of porgies anchoring up and drop down a chum bucket will just improve your chances of catching more.

"A Warning About Anchoring" NEVER do so in a swift moving current, your kayak could easily get dragged under the water. Whenever you use an anchor Always Use a 3 foot section of bungee chord. 1 end gets attached using an easy release clip to the kayak and the other end to the buoy ball/anchor line. The 3 foot bungee chord could give you enough time to unclip your kayak from the anchor line in case of a possible sudden surge in current, possibly preventing your kayak from being dragged under.

When kayak fishing always think safety first!
