If you hardly use the reel and didn't abuse it, then I would suspect that the grease has dried up. There isn't much you can do through the side plate. To get to the anti reverse you will have to remove the bail rotor assembly.

The same thing happened with my Penn ss750 . My bait shop guy told me to soak it before I brought it in for him to repair. I soaked it in a bucket of water and it did work, cleaned out the salt that got in there. Unfortunately it was a temporary "fix" as it has happened again and soaking it didn't work. But give it a try.
