When you guys are coming off of a beach with no air facility, how do you air up your tires. Do you take it easy to the nearest gas station, or do you carry one of those little cigarette lighter compressors. If you use a compressor, which models are suggested? Which have the highest cfm?

I had a couple of friends into off-roading who had compressors built into their truck and it would fill into a tubular bumper that had been sealed to make a holding tank. I've got a new truck and I am not ready to modify it that way yet.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Capt. Bill,

That is what I did last season, but I never saw anyone else doing it.

Matt,

Thanks for the info. I just checked out the Oasis site and they have the original and the QA2. Is the 3 much different? Also, they didn't have prices on either of them. What does a nice unit like that go for?

Thanks again guys,

THING,
I was always cautious while driving like that for fear of rolling the tire off of the rim (always carry a can of ether for emergency remounting).

Striper77,
I was considering the air tank route, but then I have to make a consious effort to bring it. Sometimes I just like to go after work, or if I'm just in the area, and the tank is too big to carry around all of the time. Thank you though.

Matt,
All is well over here. How are you, getting out yet. I tried Rattlesnake Creek yesterday to no avail. One of the locals down there reported a small brown on a nightcrawler. I am looking foward to the Freeport show. It'll be my first time at this show and I have got a long wish list. I'll be there with Spygull on Saturday morning. Going?

Thanks again all.

Hagar,

I just noticed that system last night while showing that site to a couple of my friends who are interested in the tire deflators. A five pound cylinder is nice and small(but for $20 more the ten is definately worth it) and it fills the tires very quickly.

Like I said though, I would have to always have it with me, for those times I was not planning on going to the beach. That is the reason I like the idea of the built in compressors Matty mentioned.

Thanks everyone, you have given me plenty to think about.

Thanks for the forewarning. I have never used that fix-a-flat stuff because I was told that it will ruin your tire balancing. That is another good reason (chuckle).

That green slime seems like a better product. From what I understand, it stays a liquid, so it spreads evenly and doesn't ruin the balance. I beleive it can be used as a preventative measure to seal punctures as they occur. Anyone have any experience with it?

HAHAHAHA. Looks like this could get interesting.

Thanks again Matt. That is a great ability. I am definately considering the compressor route. I am also considering getting a CO2 or air tank from a welding shop and making my own. Right now, I can't spring for the few hundred bucks either way. I have to see where I am at the end of the month, let the account catch up with the purchase, especially after the Freeport Show. I am looking a couple of months down the line. Just doing my homework right now.

I did not catch that in Hagar's post. I am not familar with an A/C conversion. The installable compressors I found online are all directly connected to the battery. Would one of you please explain that for me.

Shag, Can I go fishing with you??????? That is great. Wouldn't a power inverter work (I just got one for my laptop for work). Have you seen that tailgater blender that is built on a weedwacker engine?

What happened??????? Did I commit some kind of fishing site faux pas? Really, I was only kidding!

Seriously now, I found a site that shows how to build an A/C conversion. I would rather go with an electic system instead. Are there any benefits to the A/C system over the electric ones?

Oh. I didn't realize that you lost the A/C in the truck with the conversion. Thanks.

Thanks Striperjerk1. I forgot to mention in this thread that I just got a 2002 Silverado. I only saw one set-up on that site for Chevy's that were Pre 1998. 4 CFM @ 90 PSI is A LOT of air. I will look into that route too. I always wanted a nice pair of air horns as well, and that compressor could handle them easily.

Shag,

Thanks for the invite and I will definately take you up on it. Like you, I am not willing to modify and possible void the A/C warranty yet.

If any of you guys see a 2002, pewter (champagne) 2500HD Silverado, being driven by a heavy, shaved headed guy about 25 years old, wave me down and say hi. I hope I get to meet some of you tommorow at the show. I will be there first thing in the morning.
