I continually get emails from fishermen asking where they can pick up aftermarket parts for their older Penn reels. Of course some of the best aftermarket parts were made by Newell manufacturing of Glendale California. But for many years, Newell has discontinued making these kits, and various parts. Tiburon another west coast company made various kits and spools for penn and newell products, but has now downsized that part of the business due to their making the SST reels.

ACCURATE which has been around for a number of years and makes outstanding big game reels, is again making aftermarket parts for Penn products. They have even redesigned their original handles to make them more comfortable for the fishermen. These kits update the fishing reel standards such as the Squidder, Jigmaster, 4/0 and 6/0 reels.

You can also pickup high speed gears for the 500, 4/0 and 6/0 reels!

So if you want to update your older Penn reels, this would be the way to go. I have made and owned various kit reels, and you will definite notice the improvement in the performance. I just wanted to keep you guys advised that you still have options in updating your Penn reels.

I have been wondering what has happened to the various aftermarket parts Cos. and their products.I hate to give up my trusty Penns but would love to upgrade to one piece frames. Do you or anyone else have experience with the one piece Jigmaster frame or in general with Accurate products?

bassavant...i have owned at least 20 of these accurate/tiburon kits over the years for my penn and newell reels. I know of people that have their fathers old penn reels, and want to upgrade them. Their is no better way then these kits.

The main purpose of these kits is to improve performance, notably casting, since the frames, correctly align the side plates.

The complete accu-kits include a spool a frame and plates, makes the squidders, jigmasters, 4/0 and 6/0 reels indestructable beasts!

Most notable of the frames are the addition of a 9/0 frame which should be bought if you tuna fish with the 9/0 senator reels onboard a party boat. They actually make the reel lighter in the bigger sized frames.

Finally to answer you question, i still have a converted jigmaster which has the following:
ACCUPLATES
NEWELL..... GRAPHITE BARS, BASE & 332 SPOOL
PRO GEAR.... JACK LEVER, BEARING CUPS AND DRAG STAR
NEWELL....GEARS, SS YOKE
PENN....GUTS AND INTERNATIONAL 12 HANDLE
PRECISION....DRAG WASHERS

This is some collection of parts, and shows you what can be done with these kits to maxamize a reels performance.

What i would wish that Accurate would bring back was the old MAGNUM kits, for the jigmaster, 3/0 and 4/0 i believe. What Accurate did was to make the right side plate larger to accept the next larger size gearing up. These are pretty hard to find nowadays.
