I just watched the video "A Tribute to Tuna". This video is a must for anyone who has ever fished for tuna. The footage of anglers hauling 300+ yellowfins over the rails on cane poles with no reels is incredible. The phone # on the tape to call is (800)262-6070

PS MakoMatt, thanks for giving me the tape!!

Mike, where can you get that tape, same place? Do you know the name of it?There was a fishing club in I think Durban, South Africa, where they would fish for Great Whites from jetties.

great whites.. Live lining seals? My girlfriends sister has a cat I'll donate.

I was following that man in the white suite post.. what exactly do you use for bait if targeting great whites? Seals?.. Everything I've ever seen on them seems to include seals as a major food source.

As an alternative to live lining seals - it would seem natural for them to take a slab of beef if that's the case?.. hmmm here's an idea, how about live-lining cats? I watched a discovery channel type show when they were using foam "lures" that looked like seals - the sharks would come out of nowhere and nail them. Great whites supposidly feed by using a couple strikes, one to injure; then they conseve energy and wait for prey to die before consuming. I wonder if you would hook them on the first or second strike?

Matt,
Yep, same place. Its another one of Michael Fowlkes (so?) productions.
Leaky,
I wished I knew someone that had a boat around the Farallon islands. I'd try trolling for the whites with rubber seal for a lure.

Leaky, not that I know 1st. hand, but one of the problems with using things like live cats for baits is that they would keeping swiming back to the boat, it would be hard to keep them out in the slick. I heard of someone a long time ago that tried it with rats.

Troll the cat to keep it away from the boat

On a serious note, trolling a rubber seal might be perfect. On that show they set up a chum slick and them floated the foam thing out into the slick on a rope.

Well.. I guess live-lining cats on balloons is out.. mabye we could use a combination - as MakoMike suggested - trolling, but use a cat instead of the rubber seal? I've attached an illustration, I'd like to bring the great merit of this idea to light.

you could crimp back a cat's right legs and another cat's left legs so that when you troll them both they will naturally pull to the side and not tangle. (reference to those trolling wing-rigger things)

And dont forget to trim the tail if they get too frisky.

But do you skewer them like a mackeral out the anus?
