My first post, I moved back to LI and have been getting back into fishing. I got a Newell 220 reel and was using it with 7' MH ugly stick but it doesn't seem matched right. After going out last night and catching my first bass of the season, non-keeper, on my friends boat at fire island inlet I'm hooked. Which rod around $100 would match right with this reel? My friend has a pistol grip and I liked the way it felt, should I consider this? Thanks.

Have a look at the Lami BL7030C. Its a little more than 100 bucks but its well worth it. If that is to heavy for the fishing you do, go for the BL7020C. Great rods.
I don't think the newell will fit on a rod with a trigger grip. I had to modify mine.

I'm partial to the new Lami TFX7020/7030 sticks. Now that they've upgraded the 7020 blank, its a beautiful rod, capable of boating anything you're likely to hook around here. More than you want to spend though.

So maybe a St. Croix PM70MHF? Veddy nice piece - right around your budget.

Or a Shimano Trevala 30-80 or 50-100? Don't be fooled by the seemingly ridiculous line ratings. Either one would be GREAT with your reel on it.

All the above rods feature trigger reel seats, by the way.

best, lep
