While browsing through one of the various catalogs that come in the mail over the winter, I came upon flashers/dodgers used for salmon trolling in the Great Lakes & Northwest. As I was looking at them, a thought occured to me. What would happen if one of these flashers were used when trolling bunker spoons. The flash would give the appearence of a bunker getting the attention of a striper. As far as rigging, off the top of my head I'd guess the best location would be just above the swivel before the mono leader to the spoon. I think this might work. What do you guys think?

I would give it a shot, stranger things have happened.Even though some say it will hurt the action of the spoon people do rig parachutes off a three way swivel above the spoon and have pretty good success with it.

Not a bad idea, but . . .

I think that a good-sized dodger will affect the way a bunker spoon swims. A typical bunker spoon, at the end of 300/350' of wire plus a good-sized leader has about a 4-6' arc to its swimming motion, anything that takes away from that swimming motion is gonna work against you.

Now if you rig up with a dodger up front and a nice bucktail/porkrind combo trailer, THAT might just work.

Many of us South Shore trollers have gone to putting a 1oz parachute buctail with a pork rind on the hook up ahead of the spoon and done quite well on the bass. So maybe if you reverse it, that might work to.

Warning - don't use that bucktail up front rig if bluefish are still around - they will most certainly hit the bucktail and sever the trailing leader to your nice shiney $20 spoon.

That happens alot.
