Captain Desi posted this Info in the "REPORTS" Section.
It appears too good to go unread so I have copied and pasted it here for all to read............

PLEASE ATTEND and HELP SAVE YOUR FLUKE SEASON!!!!

*****************************************************
Please show your support on Tuesday March 11 to urge the Council to vote for an extended fluke season. Many of the options they are proposing ( like a 30 day season) will be unbearable for our industry. We need to fight for the longest season possible. Please come to the meeting if you can.THIS IS NOT AN OPTION, IT IS A MUST!!!! Thanks for the support.
******************************************************

On March 11 the Marine Resource Advisory Council (MRAC) will be meeting at 2 PM at the D E C building 205 Belle Meade East Setauket. The 2008 Fluke Regulations are on the agenda.

The council should be voting on the regulations at this meeting. Anyone that fishes for Fluke and wants the longest season possible needs to be there. This is not an option this is a must. Remember the state wants to cut the season to between 30 - 50 days and this is unacceptable to the fishing industry.

UNITED BOATMAN supports the 20 1/2 inch size limit with the season of MAY 15 - Sept.1 season. The season we support May 15 - Sept. 1 is not perfect but it is the best we can get. Some of the other options may work better for some areas but not for others.

We all must stand together on this so all of the fishing industry on LONG ISLAND has a chance to survive, while we try to change the laws. So I hope you folks will find a few hours of your time, to fight for your 2008 season.

***********************************************************

Please Mark Your Calender and show up at this Meeting and make yourself seen and heard!

There is NO time left for us to Recs. to do something except cry over what they give us.

SHOW UP AND MAKE A STAND!!!!!!

How about some "SuperStar" support ?

 Maybe we need to have some "Super Star" backing on this as in the Chinatown thing. Like you said, don't coun't on it because some of them just talk a good game until it comes time walk the line.

Or maybe the Regs don't effect them like it does the rest of us?
(and you know who you are, too!)

See you there!

Or maybe 2PM on a Tuesday afternoon is a little more difficult than a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.... Unless you work weekends.

Just put it in my calendar. Will see if I can get there. Makes you kinda wonder whether or not the NYS DEC wants much input from anyone. Why couldn't they schedule these meetings at 7 PM like a local town/school board?

Scott,
Sorry to say I think you're right, they could care less about what we have to say.
I am willing to bet that they have their minds made up as to what they are going to stick us with, like it or not!

Hate to say but a 20.5' minimum in my area is the same as catch and release. 99% of the fish are under 19.5. Maybe 1 out of 300 would be 20.5. That is going to result in more dead fish than if we had a simple 14" limit. Assuming people stop fluke fishing for the day when they fill thier limit.
The worst part is the kids. I don't care if I have a great day on the water and don't bring home anything.. kids do. Perhaps they should add 1 fish over 14" per kid under 16 years old so the kids don't lose interest completely

The anti-fishing people would like nothing better than kids to lose interest in fishing. That way they'll have even less opposition in the future.

You got that right, Scott!

Letting minors keep one fluke under the min.size (whatever it eventually is) would be a great idea, and it isn't without precedent. I've freshwater fished about 3 times in my life, but IIRC, children under 16 don't need a licence in NY.

I plan to fish for fluke regardless of what the regs are going to be. I'll take my ticket, pay it and move on. The DEC does not have what I would call a menacing presence where I am fishing. We have to make a stand somewhere against these silly regulations being forced down our throats.

Where i am i never see DEC and have never had my little garvey get checked. I am with quint, im fishing and keeping fluke no mater what just like last season. A couple of fish doesnt hurt anything, if anything should have strict regs it should be flounder but thats another debate.

I like the way you think Quint1129. I'm to old school to buck the system though. Even if these regs they are proposing are ridiculous. Let the DEC earn their money going after the people that are doing the real damage to our fisheries. The guy with two 19" fluke is not the criminal. Regardless of what the regs are, the guys that poach are gonna poach no matter what. Used to be fun to go fishing. These days it's becoming a chore. Gas prices. Bait prices. Boat expenses. Oil. Tackle. Rods & reels are through the roof. I used to jump on my boat to escape the craziness of the world. Now when I jump on a boat, the craziness is just beginning!
