Some spots for you..

The first is the seawall at the end of Hudson park. Next is alongside the Glen Island Casino in the channel between the casino and Premium Point. A third is the seawall next to the Shamrock. I'm not familiar with the best times and tides to fish, but all these spots produce; Ive seen thick schools of them on the sounder screen and jigged them up several at a time for bait. Good luck.

herring

I live out on LI (Huntington area) and have a few spots out this way if it will help you. just shoot me a pm.

as far as how, I like to use Sabiki rig's. They have them in most tackle shops. On the rig package it tells you to use a sinker on the bottom of the rig, but I like to replace the sinker with a small tin for a little extra bling.

Herring

very, very slow. Your best bet would be Hudson Park. Fish about 3 hrs prior to dark until total darkness (from about 2:30 - 5:30). The few that are being caught are being caught between those time frames.

sabiki rigs

I've had more luck casting a sabiki than jigging it. I seem to get more hits on a steady retrieve than jerking it. Tie a small castmaster to the end of the sabiki. If they're there you can't keep them off, and you'll pick up multiples with each cast. Best times are incoming and high tides.
