Gentleman,
I have a rather non-unique question for the group. I am considering purchasing a new fishfinder
. A basic color unit with maybe an 8" screen would work for me. I don't need all the bells n whistles like GPS or MPH or other useless (IMHO) gidgets and gadgets. I would like the unit to reliably identify fishies, be dependable and have reputable
tech support. I will be using it mostly in the bays for flatties, blues, stripers and the like. If it could find clam beds that would be awesome!
:rolleyes::confused:
Now that would be a worth while feature! I had a Sitex scope years ago which was great except for when it broke the last time and the company refused to repair it because I sealed the circuit board to stop it from corroding.
So, if you guys would be kind enough to recommend a
unit, up to say about $200 I would greatly appreciate it. The other $400 will be going to stimulate my outboard with fuel :mad: from that wonderfully generous stimulus check we are all getting. Thanks so much for the advice and keep those lines tight! Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

So you're lookin' for an 8" COLOR fishfinder for $200?

Me too.

Maybe at 7 times that price (if we're lucky).

As far as I know, $200 barely buys a 4" low-res/low-power monochrome
fishfinder these days.

Hey, don't laugh, I've had a 4" Humminbird machine in my boat as a "bay" backup for the 12 seasons I've owned her. Came with the boat, so who can say how old that supposed "piece of junk" machine really is?

Most reliable and user-friendly piece of electronic gear I've ever seen, anywhere/anytime.

Lep

Garmin

I have the 400c and it is a good unit. Just upgraded to the 440s which also has gps. It connets to the same power cord so I did not have to rewire the boat. The split gps/sonar is a little small but works just fine.
