Does anyone remember catching fish called Lafeyettes?I used to go on a open boat out of the Lindenhurst area in the late 70's and he fished around the Robert Moses bridge for flounders and we used to catch these fish they had a black spot in back of gills and looked like a cross between a porgy and a snapper.I have not seen one caught in over 20+ years anyone remember these fish? Also they wieghed about 3/4 of a pound.

I have caught a very few over the years. Mostly at the old ponequogue bridge in Hampton Bays while snapper fishing.

i caught a few of these as a kid off of oak beach peir. some one told me they are also called pilot fish??

i remember going weakfishing in the state boat channel about 5-7 years ago and the lafeyettes were all over the place! they were a lot of fun to catch. they still around?

i can't believe that i have not caught one in over 20 yrs and they are still around.From what i remember they will only hit bait,correct?

Used to catch them along with porgies in Jamaica Bay. That was about 20 years ago....

I somtimes still catch them in the overnight crab trap off my dock in J-bay.

Definitely not Pilot Fish.They have vertical black vertical bars on them.

the old Dotted progie?

30 Years ago we used to catch buckets of them in Jamacia bay and off Canarise pier.
I remeber using a old window screen and dragging the dockside on the pier to catch grass shrimp. Then we would hammer the Blackdotted porgie is what we called them, all day long. I did see last week one caught off delray pier in Fla. last week is that funny or what.
