I'm loolking to get a new jigging rod for use on Stelwaggen and east of Chatham on a private boat. It'll be used for cod jigging 75% of the time, and the rest of the time for tuna. I still mostly use Norwegian jigs for cod, but have been experimenting with lighter 'butterfly' jigs when I can hold bottom with them.
It used to be cod rods were ~7' broomsticks, but now they seem to have gotten softer and shorter. I looked at some Trevalas but am puzzled by their <6' length. This board seems to agree that long rods are not necesasary for jigging, but I also see a fair bit of talk of Calstar 700H and XH blanks used for jigging.
So, what kind of a rod do I really want? I don't have the opportunity to try them on the water and would like to get one this fall. It'll be used with an Accurate 665. Thanks in advance.
