Good Morning America
Easy there folks...that fish only weighed 41 lbs. The host of Good Morning America, Chris Cuomo caught it while fishing with me at Block Island. They joked on the show that it weighed 479lbs! That is where the confusion came from. I took Chris along with my friends Peter and Todd for a weekend eeling trip at the island. We crushed the fish on Saturday morning on eels. Nearly all of them were over 35lbs with the largest just under 47lbs. We released everything but the three we could not revive. See the picture below (I am not standing in hole...these are all really big guys making their fish look small). The second pic was seen on GMA.
We were fishing very light 20lb spinning tackle loaded with Berkly Big Game (Shimano Stradic 4000 w/7' Teramar) rods. Every fish we caught came close to spooling us.
Special thanks to my good friend Capt Dave Chieffo of Block Island Fishing Charters who made sure we had everything we needed to be successful. Now is the time to get there!
