I just bought my first boat last year (2002 SeaSwirl Striper w/ yamaha SX150X)Last year went great, no problems. I had it winterized by the dealer, and wanted to dewinterize it myself. Did all the normal things, and installed a radio. Now I'm ready to put the boat in the water this weekend, but when I turn the ignition on, the gauges don't light up or come on or anything. I checked all the fuses on the panel and none are blown. Before I take it to the dealer, I was hoping one of you guys could help me out...Any Ideas???? I'm getting a little frustrated. Hopefully I'm missing something stupid, like I said it's my first boat so I have little experience.

Check the Connections.

Sometimes when wiring your own things a connection may come loose or fall off with out you even knowing it.Sometimes jusr brushing against it you do not ebven realize that it was done.

Just take a peak at the panel and see if there any open ended connections that are hanging there and try and trce it out.

Other wise get on the phone with them and maybe they can walk you through it.

Assuming it's not just simple plug that's loose:

Will the engine turn over if you try? Does the tilt & everything else work?.. I can't speak for that engine, but usually the guages, & possibly even the choke, are powered through the key switch. If you are able to turn the engine over - there is power at the switch & it's being correctly routed to the starter solenoid... that doesn't mean it's correctly being routed to the guages, but there isn't much between the key switch & guages.

Else, if your engine won't even turn over: the key switch is usually powered right off of the post on the solenoid where the positive connection to a battery is. Somewhere in between that post & key switch there is likely a main engine fuse - check for power there.

If the engine turns over fine, chances are you have a bad ground. Testing for ground is easy enough, find a guage that gives you access to a bare terminal & see if there's ground there.. Oh.. and if it ends up being a bad ground, beware that the engine probably won't respond to turning the key off or the kill switch.

Yes, the engine starts up and runs fine, the tilt works and all other electrical seems fine. I double checked all the fuses. I guess now I'll recheck all my grounds and tighten them up. Thanks for the input!!
