My first tuna trip of the year is scheduled for October 30th. I'm so psyched. Last year i went in early September and was skunked and then went on later trips and did very well, so i said heck with that i'll just wait until the full bite is going. I had very good luck the last few years on the Jamaica and am going to keep it as a tradition to keep going on it. It does take a little longer to get there, but Capt. Bogan makes it worth it. I have all my fluoro rigs set up, got some squid jigs, some new jigs, (hopefully my first tuna on a jig this year!!! give me some pointers) i even loaded my gti with powerpro to get me some live ling for them tuna and some tilefish ( I was able to get two or three tiles last year and boy were they tasty) Last year I was fortunate to go out a bunch of times and even went out the second week of December and did greaT!! On that trip I scored 5 longfins and missed a nice size yellow at boat. After that trip i knew i would be hooked. If all goes well and the weather is good, I'll hopefully get some action. Just got an email from the Jamaica and they said they limited on the Friday and Saturday trip so i guess i planned pretty well.

ANYWAY WISH ME LUCK AND CHECK OUT MY TUNA BABY!!!

I just came back from Hudson Canyon with the Capt. Lou, Freeport. We left 5:00 PM yesterday(10-23) and started fishing by 11:00 PM near the tip of the Hudson Canyon. Until 7:00 AM next morning there was not much action (we had only 2 yellowfin and 2 longfin and lost a few fish by then). After sunrise, longfin moved in and and we had steady action until we pulled anchor by 11:00 AM. I stayed with jig and had 5 longfin, which were caught from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. 8 oz hammered diamond jig worked best.
I saw a giant bluefin tuna on the surface. I heard that private boats caught bluefin tuna not far from our spot by following a dragger working there.

Heres a nice report from Bay Park fishing station

'Debra' had a great trip overnight to the Canyon fishing the Eastwall by the draggers - with Capt. Joe Masone Sr, and Jr, Artie and daughter Christine Hoerning, Pete Hessing and crew (too many to mention) - chunked 15 yellowfin, 6 longfin and 3 swordfish to 156 lbs (look for photo on our 'Great Catch Photo' page).

Its on the bay park fishing site.
