Well Alberto, you're tips did produce somewhat. We had real tough conditions. As you warned the weeds and bugs were fierce!!! I never saw so many bugs actually swarm onto the windows...was like out of some horror movie. There was also a Canadian holiday so the boat traffic was very heavy. I think I caught yellow perch even in my sleep...they hit every kind of lure and bait I threw out there.
I didn't manage many bass...actually only had one decent LM on but lost it durings some aerial acrobatics. Caught a few pike that were a blast on ultralight tackle.
Didn't get to see a channel cat, but hooked up with something very big twice at night...first one hit very softly and then proceeded to spool me while acting like a huge whitechin. Another straighten out one of my hooks.
Did catch a couple mean looking eels that easily went 4ft+...too bad they weren't congers ;)
Caught a ton of rock bass as well and a very strange looking fish that fought like a champ on my lil Lami. It sorta looked like an Ocean Pout, no real fins except for the tail and had a huge head, beady looking eyes, gills near the bottom of its throat, with some decent looking choppers...some guy said it was a German Carp but I thought it might have been a bowfin...still looking to find a picture of it. I took some photos but gotta wait for them to get developed before I can get em scanned.
Had numerous problems with the houseboat and having most of my friends cancel on the trip didn't help.
Did have a good time though and just wanted to thank you again for all of your great tips and advice!!! Hopefully next time up there will be alot better!

Gami, thinking it was a big channel cat as I was fishing at night using perch for bait. Granted the reel was a Penn PG 3000 and could of used some more line on it before hand ;)

The other mystery fish didn't look like any carp I ever saw...closest thing that it did look like was a bowfin...should have the pictures developed soon.

Hey Gottog,
Welcome back! BTW: From the look of things, you probably had those big channel cats that I was telling you about! ;)

Also... Did that strange looking fish look something like this?

GT, There are some mighty sturgeon in the St. Larry if the perch was dead it could have been one of them.

Hiya Gad.
Hmmm... I had no idea that Sturgeon traveled that far North? Just wondering.. Have you seen a Sturgeon up close and personal?

That picture is pretty close to what I caught, except mine was a lil bigger ;)

So what is it?

I must say though, it is exceptionally beautiful up there and can see why some people regularly go fishing there!!!

Ahhhh, that's what I thought. When we got it in the boat I asked a older getleman on a nearby docked sailboat what it was and he told me it was a muskie...I just looked at em funny and said "nahhh, go back to sleep" LOL Was a good fight on my lil lami though...took about a 1/2" strip of perch to entice it. Unless something hit that and it came in for the kill???

Might be doing it again next year, just maybe not from a house boat ;)

gottog... those fish that spooled you in the dark WERE big channel cats... a big one is next to impossible to turn on light tackle especially in the dark. I fish for them in the Susquehanna River in NY state and we got tired of them breaking line, spooling and otherwise getting away. I and my sons now get odd looks when we walk to rivers edge with surf sticks, 20-30 lb. test line, bluefish hooks, and 3 oz. sinkers! It helps but they still get away more often than not. Pretty tough customers! .... bob
