Capt. Rich reported a solid day of fishing aboard the Gail Frances. The majority of fishers had their sea bass limits including some real whoppers(up to 4lbs plus) and a decent amount of good size fluke were taken as well with a few fish over 7 lbs fighting it out for the pool and the pool honors went to longtime regular and exceptional rod handler Mr. Pak from Queens NY. Mr. Pak also easily had his limit of nice size fluke. There were other fluke between 4 and 6 lbs. As has often been the case most of the bigger fish fell victim to gulp baits fished on buck tail jigs of some sort. The gulp revolution continues with the best success seemingly on days when there is little to no drift. As has been the case on a number of recent trips there has been a tremendous amount of big mackerel around. One fisher easily managed a couple dozen horse mackerel to over 2 lbs!! It has been decades since we have had mackerel reports like this around Block Island this time of year. Back in the mid 1980s there were even half day fishing trips for mackerel down here this time of year!! Not only an excellent source of bait, but fresh Mackerel is out of this world table fare! Capt.Rich will set sail tomorrow morning at 7 am aboard the Gail Frances.

Capt. Keith reported an ok morning half day. Lots of catching but not quite as much keeping as we had hoped for. First mate Connor reported a solid afternoon half day with cooperative sea bass of keeper size inhaling fisher’s squid/spearing offerings. A handsome handful of nice size fluke to 4 lbs as well. More action with shorts as well! Two half day trips on tap tomorrow with the first to set sail at 8 am aboard the Lady and the second at 1pm aboard the Admiral Frances.

As was mentioned in an earlier post today, last night’s bass fishing was outstanding. The fishing has been wildly variable this summer but the past two weeks it has been excellent. We unfortunately will not have a trip tonight but plenty of room remains on Friday and Saturday Night’s outings coming up. Please call the office to make an official reservation!
