Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Myself and my wife went up to Rhode Island for a few days and fished the full day fluke boat that the Frances fleet runs (Gail Frances) on July 4th and 5th. On July 4th the boat was packed as expected for a holiday and I knew it wasn't going to be easy for anyone.

The key was to stay on the bottom without getting tangled in the fast drift and strong tide long enough to get a bite. The simpler the better...a plain hook and just a loop for the sinker..no swivels etc. this way you can get back in the water quick if you do get tangled.

Capt. Rich did a great job getting us on fish and the deckhands with first mate Matt who seems to be aware of everything that is happening on deck were great!! Corey and Chris along with one other rounded out the deck crew.

We ended up with 5 keeper fluke and 2 seabass...biggest fluke on board were an 8lber and two 6 lbers.

The next day the crowd thinned out and tangles were not a problem, we hit the seabass grounds first and some bigguns came up. We ended up the day with 6 fluke and 3 seabass to take home. Plenty of short action to keep us busy. This was our first time on the Frances boats not with a charter and we were impressed. Thanks guys!!
