Report location New York > Fire Island > Gilgo to Tobay
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Started out just outside the FI Inlet. Wind was out of the West about 10mph and seas were 2 to 3 ft, rolling. Nice sunny day. Picked a couple of small fish right outside the inlet on AVA-17's then they got picky so I went West to Gilgo and found fish coming out of the water WITHOUT BIRDS on them, but they were finicky too so after about a 1/2 hour I went further West to Tobay and dropped some clam to the bottom and grabbed a 26" bass as soon as it hit. Stayed with the clams for another 6 fish to 31.5". Then they started busting on top, big time, so I switched to a popper, while still drifting clams, and picked another 10 fish on top, all schoolies 18 to 24 inches but it was a blast. No more touches on the clam either. Tide changed, wind picked up and seas grew to 4 to 6 ft so I packed it in and headed home with the wind to my back (for a change!)All fish were caught in water 29 to 40 ft. Off to Aruba on Monday, hope they are still around when I get back!!!!!!

It's not like he painted a picture!

Nice day Fordfox, I went out there at 3pm to catch the outgoing tide but it was nasty by the time I got there.
