Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Set out today @ about 1000hrs gently slicing through the rain and fog, figured I'd start with the last of the incoming at the RM Bridge. The SKATES were thrilled!!! Boy do they love clams!

Rain stopped and visibility improved so I ventured outside where I realized my thoughts of "setting up" on the West Bar were just that, THOUGHTS!. Seas were 4-6 with a few 8's thrown in, but they were rolling in, not crashing, so I headed West along the beach and at Gilgo I went South to about 30' of water and came upon another boat (CC w-2 guys) and there were the birds, all 22 of them! I kept my distance and to make a long story short (sorry)I landed approximately 16 bass from 12:15 to 3:35pm. Out of that I had 2 keepers, a 28" and a 31".

It was a beautifull day with a light SE-S-SW wind all day and except for the swells, a pancake flat ocean. The bass were rolling around and swirling, and most of the time away from the birds! I also fished clams on the bottom for the first hour with no takers, and also went through this 2 days ago (SAT) drifting eels with no takers while we jigged the bass at the same location! They only wanted the "peanuts" or a AVA-17. Today I also tried a "6" Chrome Broken-Back Rebel. Dropped it right between 2 rolling fish with not even a touch! They were 'focused">>>>>>>>All my action occurred in 25 to 30 feet of water between Gilgo and Tobay.

It was wet but it was FUN!!!!!!!!

Nice post....and unlike those poor SOB's in the CC you had a warm ride home inside the cuddy with the shower curtains down. Overall, sounds like a great outing capt'n.
