He flew into the mackeral rig while it was in mid-flight and took a hook to the back of the head. He took off as soon it was removed.

Gulls

I get at least one a year, especially now when they like the bass put on the feed bag.
Every single gull was released with nothing more than a few ruffled feathers.Toungue

That seagul is undersized.

Just reel em up like any other catch grab the entire body ( wings closed) the peck they give you can hurt, so instead I put my whole hand in the beak so he won't peck, besides the ones I have caught I have rescued dozens a a kid, used to bring them home until they were health enough to fly again.up

I saw a gannet caught on a party boat i was on in Montauk a couple years back. The bird went for the mackeral and was hooked. The captain came out and hauled the bird up on deck and tried to unhook it. Everyone was standing around watching him get bit to hell by this thing so I put down my rod and went over and grabbed it's bill with both hands while he unhooked it. The bird flew away unharmed. It was nice to see. The captain's hands were bleeding though.
