went out today from 9-11 not well at all only caught 2 dont know wut i did wrong or if the tide was right for herring..if any1 can help me out so i can start catching them that would be great!!! the info that would be helpful is wut tide i should go wut time is usally good and wut to use because today i lost about 3 bucktails at captree i was so mad lol
This year was my first try at it and all three times I happened to catch the end of the outgoing tide and the beginning of the incoming. I don't think they handle the full flow of the tide very well.
There is a lot of junk by those docks resulting in a lot of snags. I use very ligh stuff when I am there (i.e 1/4oz & 1/2oz bucktails, leadheads, etc).
Fish the high slack and the start of the outgoing. When the tide starts to run to fast the action will stop.Use the sabiki rigs with a small sinker 1 oz and jig it on the bottom. Hope this helps you.Good luck
Take Long Beach rd south (big main road find on any map) through the town of Long Beach over the bridge make right onto Park ave continue to Magnolia blvd turn right towards water...sabiki rigs and dodgers at beginning of outgoing seems to be best ..good luck!
I read your post and have been looking forward to going out myself. Apparently they're kickin' butt @ Long Beach/Magnolia but I've traditionally done well at the Captree piers. My usual game plan was to be there at dead low tide ready to go with my 5.5 or 7' Ugly Stik and the Penn 550SS. As soon as the tide starts flooding is when I begin throwing the rig in. This has usually worked for me.
