Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Got out last night for only the second time this year the first REAL fishing since the first time was like a trial run for the boat. Fished until about 8:30 when the wind and tide teamed together to make for a miserable return. I didn't see much action on the finder or on the water but I managed the first striper of the year for the boat and finally I caught it being it is my boat (usually everyone else does better) 11 1/2 lbs. 30" caught in 37' of water outside Manhasset on a fresh bunker head. My fishfinder gave me a water temp of 55 deg. I don't know if that is acurate or not but I remeber when we were killin em last year it said 62-63 deg. Plus it was after it rained all the end of May so maybe this week of rain and little warmer water will help us out.

That water temp reading is consistent with the readings I was getting last weekend in mid-Sound. Stripers get active once the water hits 50 degrees so we're in the right groove with the temps. But I think the vast bulk of the fish are still up in the Hudson and will be tricking in over the next few weeks. Nice catch.
