Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Started the W.I.C.C. by getting on the water by 11 p.m. friday night made my way from H.H. to Throgs Neck set anchor just east of the bridge in 45' north/east of the red bouy and threw in the chum also started chunking bunker over board with the gatorade sports bottle (filled with bunker oil) doing a steady drip off the back of the boat (a little over board hahah) had a run-off within 20 mins. missed the hook set and the chunk came back unmarked so I figured striper. Then 10 mins. later same situation w/ the chunk being untouch but my bro's rod. Picked up after two hours and moved over by steppin stone NOTHING. Picked up again after two hours and moved just north/west of the mouth of Manhasset NOTHING AGIAN. Sunset switched to livelineing next to Big Tom lots of bunker no blues one run-off trolled 24" tubes after that from throgsneck to execution NOTHING AGAIN. Headed in for a sat. night wedding. Hit the water again Sun. 2 a.m. set up same chum slick a half mile east of Hart's for NOTHING AGAIN. Sunrise same livelining, same area NOTHING AGAIN. Trolled the day away from LNB-Manhasset-Execution-Harts-around City Island finally pick up the first fish at the same place I chunked the night away 11 lbs. then another same place 8 lbs.. Called it a day at 3 p.m..

Sorry for the exhasuting post I'm just disapointed I did good on Blues all year then to practially get skunked during the tournement and to hear people on the radio talk about fish after fish. I have to concentrate on bluefish SPOTS a little more the only way I ever catch big blues is under bunker schools so I can't find bunker or if the blues aren't under them. I have no idea of any good spots to set up and chunk. I do have to say the radio was entertaining all weekend I couldn't stop laughing listening to ch.68.

So how was the wedding? Does anyone get any sleep when this contest is on? I bet the "call in sick" rate went up the Monday after.....

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS REPORT. I ALSO FISHED THIS EVENT AS I DO EVERY YEAR AND HAD THE WORST RESULTS IN MY HISTORY. I LEFT MT. SINAI 11PM FRI NIGHT TO THE SHORAM BOUY # 7 AND PUT OVER THE SIDE 1 OF 4 BUCKETS OF CHUM. THIS RESULTED IN ONE COCTAIL AND 10 SAND SHARKS. OK MAYBE THE WATER WAS TO WARM SO AT THE CHANGE OF THE TIDE HEADED TO DEEPER WATER, ON THE WAY DECIDED TO TROLL RED TUBES AND MANAGED TO DUPE UP A MACKEREL. FIRST FOR ME.....ANYWAY I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BETTER LUCK FROM THERE ON OUT. 3 MORE BUCKETS OF CHUM AND A FLATT OF BUNKER AND NOBODY SHOWED UP FOR A MEAL.I FISHED EVERY TIDE IN FULL WITH ONLY 3 HRS OF SLEEP WITH MY REEL AT MY SIDE CLICKER ON WITH ONE EYE OPEN. PLACES FISHED: SHORAM BOUY#7/ 120FT OF WATER JUST N OF #7/ BOUY 11/ STATFORD SHOUL/ OLD FEILD POINT/ CRANES NECK 11FT TO 50FT/ SMITHTOWN BAY AND ALL AREA BEACHES CLOSE TO SHORE....NOTHING NOTTA AND JUST TO THINK MY FIRST PLAN WAS TO GO OUT OF HUNTINGTON AND WORK WEST. HEY BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR.

YUKONJIMI,quite a few yearas ago when they were still building the shoram plant i was trolling about 2miles off of the mouth of the entrance to the plant .i was trolling a large figure 8 pattern pulling a single red tube on wire line .it was about 4am when my reel started to scream ,at first i thought i hooked bottom because the rod didn't pulsate it was just straight down,i kind of nonchlanted taking the rod out of its holder but when the rod butt cleatred the holder it almost got pulled from my hand.after a long battle, on wire, i took the largest blue i had ever seen.i fished the balance of the day but that was my only fish.i took my boat back to port jeff where my trailer was and had the fish weighed at craftis fishing station and at about 4 in the afternoon that fish weighed 20 lbs.i've since moved to the western sound but have often thought about that blue off the power plant

Live 2 fish
