Six of us made the trip from Queens out to Orient today for a fluke charter aboard the Tautoga. Capt. Mike was gracious enough to inform me the day before the trip that the fluke bite in Orient was not quite yet up to par and offered to make the run to Montauk where the bite has been hot. Man, am I glad we took his advice. Good idea Capt. Mike. We even left the dock an hour early!

From the first drift to the last we had consistent action. We fished from 45-60 feet of water. Mike and mate Joe worked their butts off to keep our baits looking sexy on the bottom. It paid off with bullets and white teasers tipped with spearing doing the trick for quality fish up to 5 1/2 lbs. Long time since I have seen so many good fish for such an extended period of time. The best thing about it was that the conditions allowed me to work the ultra-light tackle all day which really added to the overall enjoyment of the day. The low light conditions called for a few changes to my rigs but in the end an excellent day of fishing in mecca...

I had never fished the Tautoga before but in speaking with Capt. Mike over the past several weeks I had confidence we would have success. Mike proved me right. First class operation. Solid & clean boat and a knowledgeable crew. We really appreciated all the hard work you guys did today to maximize our experience. Thanks again Mike & Joe. Look forward to seeing you in November for those big tog!
