I hit the snooze to go back to sleep at 0515 Thursday morning. But as soon as my head hit the pillow, a little voice told me, "Get up silly, today you can target blackfish!" So I shot out of bed to begin this wonderful time of year when I subject myself to wind, cold, and frustration in the name of catching tautog.

The water was still quite warm at 68 degrees, but when the wind/tide allowed me to hold the spots I wanted, there were plenty of hungry tautog present. I fished the first half of the incoming tide in 11-13 feet of water, using S&S blackfish jigs and Asian crabs. In addition to three keeper-sized blackfish up to 4 pounds, I broke off two good ones in the rocks, released multiple 15.5" fish, and kept a pair each of sea bass and scup. And this weekend's cold front should really help things along. Let the games begin!

Awesome! Glad you were able to beat the weather. I had a feeling you were fishing rain or shine.
