Report location New York > North Shore > Port Jeff, several trips
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Things have been busy to post any reports, but I have gotten out for a number of trips, mostly targeting fluke with an occasional attempt at bass. All in all, the bite for both has been fairly slow, and the number of keepers has been low. I did manage a few nice fish over the last week or so.

I got a personal best fluke at 6.7 pounds in a back bay area, 10 feet of water, on a bucktail/teaser rig. My wife also picked up a 5-pounder on the same setup, different trip.

I had 2 of my kids out on Memorial Day afternoon, which was the best trip yet. We had a nice mixed bag including 2 keeper fluke, a 30-inch bass, and over a dozen nice scup, in the 12-14" range. My 10-year-old son landed the bass on a diamond jig in 40 feet of water, and it was his first keeper bass without any help from dad. That was a proud moment for both of us!

Looks like things are starting to pick up. See you out there. (Not sure why the pics are sideways).

Congrats on the accomplishments Josh. My year has been the same so far. Very underwhelming. Was out Sunday and the temp in Smithtown bay was 53-54. Crazy for this time of year. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll be trading lunker bass stories. Be well..

I find that if I open the image in a editor (i.e., Paint) - do something with the photo (quick resize, do a 360 degree rotation, etc.), then save it, then upload - will upload properly. A little pain, but seems to fix the sideways images.
