Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

Today's glorious weather left me no choice but to go fishing. I've been hearing about bass blitzes in the Western Sound. Since I was fishing solo, I didn't want to bother with anchoring for tog. So I figured I'd head out and diamond jig up some bass. Easier said than done. I headed east looking for birds or party boats. None were found in all the likely spots. Eventually I hit the Triangle which was totally dead. On the way back, I finally found the fish. Although there were thousands of birds around -- some sitting and some hovering, the pods of fish were tight and scattered. Today, most of the fish were fat 5 pound blues which were spitting up butterfish. One of the blues actually spit out two live butterfish. I also caught a nice 10 pound bass which spit the jig right at the swim platform. Made for an easy release.

My son is back from school for the holiday, so tomorrow we'll give it another shot, and try for tog too. Got to take advantage of the last warm, calm and sunny day. Happy Thanksgiving.

Here''s what my son caught yesterday.

Question on sound fising

Hi Cap. Just wondering where you found the fish. I used to fish the Mamaroneck area, but not in recent seasons as my luck for stripers in that area soured. I have been reading good reports over the past few weeks. Any suggestions as to productive areas for
stripers/blues.

thanks

Nice day of fishing. Something about fishing in a t shirt in mid November, just makes it that much better. Enjoy Thanksgiving having everyone back together.
