Report location New York > Fire Island > A few keepers & a lot of shorts on a tropical day
Fishing method Fly Fishing
« Previous Report Next Report »

Friday I took my father in law and cousin in law fishing on the FI reef. We tried a few different spots on the reef, catching a lot of short sea bass and some short fluke. After a full day we came back with 3 sea bass and a 22 inch fluke.

The water was unusually calm - flat all day...and we could see 20 feet down. It was tropical! We also saw a decent size fish at the surface - possibly a large bluefish or small shark. I let out 1 line with squid and no sinker and something kept pecking at it, but wouldn't take it.
