Due to some commitments I was unable to fish on Saturday or Sunday. I finally was able to sneak out for a couple of hours late yesterday afternoon/evening.

Reports from the boats coming in as I was leaving were encouraging. They did mention that there was not much of a drift and lots of boats out there. It was Memorial Day after all.

By the time I got to the grounds the wind picked up nicely. Started off using a 1.5 ounce bucktail, but within 15 minutes I was up to 3 ounces; and that was perfect.

It was just myself and one other boat on the grounds, so that was nice.

First fish (smaller one) hit very aggressively. I was reeling up to check my GULP! when he slammed the bucktail. I had 3-4 fast cranks in before he hit.

Did a quick drift over the same spot and landed the larger fish. Caught that on on my newer Capt. Neil rod. The rod loaded up nicely and easily handled the not so happy fluke. The fish cut the fluro with a violent head shake. Thankfully he was just getting his head into the net at the time.

Large fish weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces. The smaller one (did not put it on a scale) was at least 5 pounds.

6 pounds, 15 ounces

Nice fish. Haven't been out in a few days. Tired of the shorts. Thanks for the inspiration to head out tomorrow.

Oh the shorts are still there. I went through 15 yesterday before landing two keepers.
