Its been a very weird year for us on the AllyKat. Spring was OK with fluke early on, but as most of us know, they have disappeared. Scup have started and are easy to find, but we haven't found the bigguns yet. Bass started OK for us, with a handful of keepers before July, but this past month has been dogfish city with lots of big sandsharks.

So, we tried again on Saturday afternoon, with Ryan and Mike aboard. Stopped off at Cow Harbor to grab bait from Mark and Phil....had the pleasure of seeing EdBass again...maybe it was a sign.

Anchored up near Eatons and found the porgies...lots of little guys with the occasional decent sized keeper in the mix. Fun for a while, and as the sun started getting lower, we headed further offshore.

Anchored up and had the lines going crazy with the incoming starting early than expected and NW wind..it took awhile with no hits but finally the incoming rolling we reset our position and sent it all back out again.

When the sun finally set, the action picked up. Mike saw the line dancing a bit and didn't waste any time getting tight to an absolute monster of a blue. First one for us this season. Surprisingly, it didn't dance on top or fight like we are used to, but it the end, the yellow eyed demon was set free to fight another day. That fish was followed by a smaller bass, about 24 inches that went back to grow.

Finally as that big full moon came over the land, the bunker head rod went nuts, and Ryan set the hook. Nice fight, fish stayed low for a while. It got tired and came up, but went back down. Quite a few nice tense runs out of the fish. Ryan did a great job not horsing the fish until it came boatside. It took a few tries for it to settle into the net and thump on the deck. Nice 40 incher that broke the scoreless streak we were on.

Had two other big fish take the baits over the next hour, but one spit the hook, and another broke the line (blue).

Came home with some scup and that one Bass.
