Here goes. Middle of November people in a local, brooklyn spot have been snagging bunker and catching bluefish. Bluefish. Some have hooked into large bass while reeling in a bunker. Bunker thick as thieves sometimes. I haven't caught a bass from the shore since last April. Went out Monday after work. Figured rain would keep down the crowd. Bingo. Snagged a bunker and started dead sticking. Throwing lures for naught. Bill shows up and says you'll catch on the middle of the tide, 7pm. 7:10 this 3ft. Big fat cow slams my chunk she was the hardest fighting striper I ever caught. Much to the dismay of the few onlookers, I released her.

Congratsupup

...Pretty decent fish.

As far as cows go, snag n drop is pretty much the only way to go right now in the WSS. Its the only way they have been coming up as of late.

Even on live line, its been very SLIM PICKINS.

The ratio of bunker to bass in WSS is like 1,000 to 1.

With bunker that thick, the chances of mature bass falling for plug presentation is like 1,000,000 to 1.

I have been doing a lot of snag n dropping under the circumstances for some nice run offs. Even watching as monsters chase my snag, and it jumping out of the water while attached to a weighted treble hook as they are on em.

So far, I haven't run into one still hungry enough not to spit the bait after sensing something isn't right. They have many a thousand safer bets to turn their attention to.

As we can see from that fish, even 15lbers have the belly of an older breeder, and not feeding aggressively as a result.

So, hats off on pulling that one out. Its hard out there.
