Multiple day report. I tried to post Saturday from my Ipad but after writing it up- something happened and lost the post. Getting to it- Friday night I fished in lake like conditions. Put in a few hours for a couple of schoolies. I had big plans for Saturday night- wife was out of town and my mother in law offered to watch my son so I could fish. Dropped him off around 8pm and home suiting up for a long night by 8:30. Got all me stuff together and ready to go, sat on the couch to watch the end of the baseball game - opened my eyes and it was 5am. ARGGGGGGGGGG! Jumped off the couch to make sure my gear was still in the hallway - decided to head right down. Got down to the surf around 5:30am Sunday morning- furious at myself for missing the night. Low tide- WEEDS and terrible. Worked a few jetties for nothing but pounds of weeds and moved east. Ran into an old friend at sunrise and cast around with him for a few. Raised one fish on a popper but missed it. Had to go get my boy around 8:30 still fuming at myself for sleeping through the night.

Next chance to fish was last night. Got home from work at the usual time, ate dinner, played with my boy and out the door around 8:30. I heard the weeds were still around and bad so formulated a 3 part plan. Got down to perfect surf conditions, nice wind out of the south but not brutal. The weeds were awful. Plan A was to walk east for a while looking for fishable water. Plan B was to fish my way back through the weeds , hitting pockets I know hold fish, and try to hit one in the head before I got weeded up. Plan C was to hit the jetties with a popper to stay above the weeds and see if i could raise a fish.

Walked about a mile and weed situation didn't seem to be getting any better, although i kept trying to convince myself that it was. I was just about to implement Plan B and start working my way back when I got a nasty wind knot- brutal. Dealt with it for a while before giving up and cutting off and retying. Retied and took a cast in the spot and no doubt the weeds weren't as bad-- sooooo.... decided to give it another 100yards or so east to see if it was clearing up. Tossed my SP into some good looking water and it came back clean. Bit of an east to west sweep but no weeds! On my next cast, after 2 cranks, I got hammered! Set the hook and after a couple of big head shakes all hell broke loose! A couple of big jumps left, right, into the beach then straight out and line peeling fish heading to deeper water. Quality fish- fight is on. After a few long, strong runs I felt like I was getting the upper hand- then a few more good runs. I started thinking I had a shot at a new personal best if I could just land it. I was getting close to beaching her when she made another big run parallel to the beach. She got into the sweep and ran a while down the beach with me chasing. The last run did it and she was done. Picked a wave and got her to the beach-- beaut of a fish- took the teaser. It never ceases to amaze me how these fish find and hit the little teasers. Not a personal best but a new teaser best by a lot. The teaser was barely hanging in the corner of it's mouth- just touched it and it came out. One more head shake and I think I would have lost her. Previous biggest on a teaser was 36" about 18lbs. This fish went over 40" and right around 25lbs ( carefully weighed on the boga with my leg sort of supporting her ). Quick pic and went to revive her - not really needed as as soon as I got her back into the surf she was ready to go. Held her for a bit and she took off strong, none the worse for the wear. Stayed and worked the area with an assortment of plugs for not another hit. Worked my way home and weeds got bad again. Had one more nice hit through the weeds but missed it. Called it a night around 11:30 feeling like I made up for sleeping through Saturday night .

Nice report and nice release.

You're not the only one taking interest in what has been excellent baseball. I like you have woken up to the "post-game" come extra innings wondering huh, what I miss????

Now if I missed both the winning run and a fishing night I'd be just as angry. Way to salvage the weekend with the chubber.

If you didn't seem like such a good guy, I'd be jealous, lol. Great report (as usual). Best of luck for a continued great season.

Awesome, awesome fish. Good thing it didn't hit the plug. The SP might not have survived that battle. And great job on the release!
