I was looking forward to getting out last night ( as every night I guess), with the tide set up perfectly for getting home from work, doing the family thing, eating dinner, hangin with the wife and boy- then fishing.

Checked conditions when I got home and they looked great- got some intel from a buddy that weeds weren't bad. Suited up and down to the suds by about 9pm- top of the incoming.

Some wind from the W but not much- nice surf- NO WEEDS. Fishing under the moon I went with the white SP. 5 casts in got drilled and beached a nice healthy ,just about ,keeper. Fish took the black teaser. I ran into a gentleman who was fishing a black Pt Jude tin ( nice meeting you) . After chatting up for a few , while walking away he hooked up. For the next half hour I had no hits .I had the one fish on the black teaser and the guy just caught on black so I put a darker SP on. A few casts later got hammered and beached a nice keeper ( quick pic and released) . For the next 2 hours I had a decent pick of fish. The last fish hammering the teaser - while fighting it I was certain it was a 34-36" fish. Got it on the beach and was shocked and maybe just a bit disappointed . The fish was maybe just keeper size. Couldn't believe the fight it put up. All the fish I've caught this year seem really strong and healthy. Hooked up with a buddy ( always a pleasure Paul) and worked around for a bit for a couple of hits up close and misses. Around 11pm the tide dropped like a stone and the bite died off. Finished up around midnight with a half a dozen landed and a couple of drops. Glad my landing % is going back up- lol. 3 fish took the teaser , 3 took the plug.

One of my goals this year was to get out of my comfort zone of working the jetties and fishing and learning the open beaches more. I've spent most of my time on the open beaches the last week or so with pretty good results. Another one of my goals this year ( as years past) is to get comfortable with the darter.Although I've caught fish with it, I simply have no feel for it.

I put it on last night again and after 5 or 6 casts, back in the bag it went. 1 out of two on the goals ain't bad I guess. It was a great night all around. Fishing without weeds isn't something I'm used to- for the fist half hour I was shaking imaginary weeds off my plug after every cast. Hoping they stay away for a bit.
