My wife and boy were sleeping at her parent's last night so I had a full night of guilt free fishing planned. Dropped them off and got home around 9pm. Figured I'd wait an hour or so for the tide to come in a bit before heading out. Grabbed a beer, turned on the baseball game, sat on the couch and 3 minutes later I was gearing up and heading to the surf. The main reason I fish is to be fishing so out the door I went even though I knew there wouldn't be much water to fish yet. I got down to nice surf but dead low tide. Surf was too big to wade out to get to deeper water, so started to walk around looking for pockets that might hold some fish. 1st stop- weeds and bad. Throughout the week the weeds had been pretty bad until the tide came in, so was hoping last night would be the same. On my second stop I just flipped a cast about 20 feet from the beach behind a breaker and got hit immediately. Feisty schoolie danced right up onto the beach. I had been running into schoolies right up on the beach in the wash throughout the week. Some hitting so close to the beach I thought they'd beach themselves. On one hit Wed. night, the schoolie hit as I was lifting my bomber out , I set the hook and the fish took off and my bomber pulled and I ducked my head just in time so the bomber caught the brim of my hat and not my face. It had gotten to the point where I was on edge at the end of every cast- lol.

As the tide started coming in I started finding better , less weedy water to fish again. I worked my way out with a bomber and my way back with an SP minnow. I thought I'd get into some good fish but it never happened. Had a few more hits in the wash, landed a couple and lost a couple , but it was a pretty slow night. Around midnight the surf really started to kick up, the incoming surge was pretty rough and a big east to west sweep kicked up. Unfortunately the weeds came in as well. Wrapped it up around 1am - most fish hit the bomber and only two hits on the SP last night.I had been getting into these jumbo shad all week but none last night. Great night out there even though no keepers and glad to have spent the extra hour fishing rather than sitting on the couch-- found some good spots for my next trip out. Planned on getting out before work this morning for my first morning trip but didn't answer the bell.

Nice Tom!
Looking forward to the next few months of reports from you. I hope to get down that way in the near future and de-weed the beach with my trebles...maybe even catch a bass.

Tightest of lines...
