I've been getting some very limited time to get on the water lately, about once a week later in the afternoon. Past few trip have been OK. Last Friday with my cousin Mark in town, we fluked a little..with a keeper near Crab meadow, and then switched up for bass..bringing home 2 at 34 and 30 inches. He commented on how little boat traffic the actually is on the Sound...cant beat it.

So, with another crazy packed weekend, I found alittle time sunday afternoon to get on the salt. Stopped off at Cow Harbor Bait and Tackle and chatted up Mark and Phil while I picked up some fresh bunker to chunk the incoming tide.

Got to the ramp at 6 pm and found alittle mayhem going on, with a few boats trying to get out, and everyone else coming in. Took longer than usual especially with the extreme low tide. Motored out to a spot in 50 feet of water, and sent the chucks down, chumming with old frozen bunker from previous trips.

Well, we found the water was already moving at a decent pace, and figured it was going to be game on, but the fish were not hungry. We had an occasional big blue take the chunks, and we enjoy fighting and sending the back, but we wanted dinner. I had a nice long run that spit the hook halfway up, with the chunk coming back intact..those are the heartbreakers.

The sun went down, the moon lit everything up, and the fish still weren't biting. As soon as the thought crept into my head to call it a night about 9pm...the reel goes off, and Boyd comes tight to a feisty fighter. Quite a few runs and a five minute fight against the current, but I slipped the net under the lone keeper of the night, a 36 incher. We gave it another hour, and had two other runoffs, but as the clock struck 10pm, and work in the AM..we called it a night.

A quick photo at the ramp just before we cut the fish there and tossed the carcass back to the crabs to minimize clean up back at the house. Another nice night on the quiet LI Sound.
