Planned on an early AM on sunday. Went to Cow Harbor B n T on sat afternoon and Phil hooked us up with some fresh bunker and spearing.

5 am sunday, and my brother Ed and buddy Rob are on time. We pull away from the house, and after a quick gas stop, we drop the boat in by 5:30. Sun was already up so we were late. Went to a spot in 50 feet and set the anchor with the incoming and east breeze working together.

Didn't take long for the chunks to get noticed by the dogfish, and monster sea robins. After clearing those fish off..back down it went. Soon enough, the reel peeled off line, and Ed jumped on it. He waiting for a decent run, engaged the reel and circle found it's on! Ed had a nice battle on his hands, knowing it wasn't the dead weight dogfish, and it wasn't a big blue dancing on top. The fish came up, and didn't like what it back down it went..four times it tried to swim back down, but finally tired of the 5 minute back and forth, as the net slipped under the bass. Surprised to see it was on the smaller side...a very feisty hard fighting 33 incher soon was bleeding out.

A few more dogs and a nice sized blue kept us entertained for the next hour until the tide quit on us, so we tried to drift for fluke. Headed east towards the stacks to find the mini fleet. Slow drift that was going the wrong way..we managed a few fish, with a 17 incher coming close. Gave up on that spot and headed to Eatons figuring the tide would be pulling harder over the reef.

Got to the lighthouse and we had a nice steady drift going on their, and the sea robins sure enjoyed getting fed. Multiple drifts only saw one short fluke to go with the robins...coming up on 11am, we called it day with lots more to do on a nice sunday.

Headed back to the house and snapped a few pics with the kids, cut the fish, and prepared the fillets for dinner later on.

Yet another nice morning on the LI Sound.
