Memorial Day Weekend wrap-up

On Saturday we left the dock at 7AM and headed east. We passed both Celtic Quest boats and the Osprey. They were heading the opposite direction. Not a great sign.

We stuck it out fishing east. Conditions were sloppy. Had to deploy two buckets to make a manageable drift to drag 2oz bucktails. We did manage to pull three keepers aboard.

Kidcochiese Jr. mentioned that we should head west to a spot in deeper water that usually produces, albeit later in the season. His requests were promptly and repeatedly ignored.

Eventually we decided to listen to the young man. While barely a teenager he grew up fishing and learned from the some sharpies. He is quite a good fisherman in his own right.

Well youth certainly trumped experience Saturday. We were now properly working 1oz bucktails and were into fish. The action was fast and furious and in no time we had eleven keepers aboard. No doormats, but a couple tipped the scales at about four pounds. (4.3 was the largest) Kidcochiese was high hook with his limit, and Hunter and I brought up the rest. ok, I only brought up two, do the math!

Sunday - no fishing, Memorial Day and Opening Day observances.

Memorial Day I hit the grounds aboard Headhunter. Renowned Pink Lady Tiff was aboard. We had a moderate pick of a couple of keepers then headed west.

Found the spot and proceeded to make short work of the flatties. We ended up with six keepers, one that HH caught was close to four pounds. The rest were in the 19"-20" size range. HH was high hook and I pulled two aboard. If not for my flawless netting skills these guys would probably never take me fishing!

A novice fisherman who has been taken under Shenanigans wing was out yesterday too. Smart guy and learns quickly. He came out for a quick 30 minute ride yesterday and decided to drop a line. Landed a 7.3 pound doormat then quickly headed for the barn. No more novice!

It was a great weekend to be out on the water!

I think it is more of a coincidence that the third place fish seems deliberately blocked out. just sayin'...

Nice job Koz
Was out Sunday morning in the KP grounds. Managed 1 keeper at 22, that spit up an entire live squid that we used for bait. Had over 20 shorts, we may have been to shallow.

Koz,

You looked very uncomfortable on headhunter...
I think it might have been all the hand holding that was going
on in the stern...
