Left the slip Monday around 8 AM at the end of JI high slack water. Our float plan was to reverse the course of Sunday’s fine report by EdP35. Crossed the West Bar and put out large Storm Shad plastics bunker colored on trolling weights set to high and low depths and headed for the McCalister grounds then continued in 40’ of water to the Roundhouse. No bass but a couple of medium sized full bellied blues.

Reports from Debs were more promising so lines in and on plane to Debs only to learn the catch was on bunker spoons which rigs we didn’t take. Still I did appreciate the quality of the information - which you get before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.

We printed only single fish here and there, very little bait and saw no birds except one lonely seagull. We did see some bass swirls on the surface off the bow and that seemed early with the water temp at 53 degrees. We did see some very small schools of bait splashing the surface but they were not bunker.

Seas were flat with about one foot close swells. Good day on the water with my son but not as rewarding as hoped for.

Added note: JI levels in the marked channel were in the twenties to include at the number 4 and 5. But when it was dredged they filled in the hole at the end of the west jetty.

Sorry it didn't work out for you but at least you got some fish. This time of the the is tough because the fish are on the move. It's just starting around us so the best it yet to come.
