Went out Thursday with hopes of trolling for Tuna at the Mudhole. When we broke the inlet we were greeted by 3-4' slop and 15-20 knt winds. To much weather to run 33 miles on a 21' whaler.
So it was off to plan B. We trolled South with some small feathers and had decent action with Bonito and Blues. The rough water and overcast sky seemed to really pick up the surface troll bite.
We then hit some deep water spots on the drift and had non stop action of sea bass and fluke. We needed about 16-18 oz of lead to hold bottom. A drift sock would probably have came in handy. We ended the day about 130pm with 3 keeper fluke, & 8 keeper sea bass. We had more keepers that just hit the mark but they were released.
We trolled on the way back to the inlet, the seas had calmed down along with the wind, the sun came out as well, but the troll bite was dead, not a touch on the return trip.
Hey Captain, have you had any luck, or heard anything about the tuna bite at the mud hole, monster ledge, glory hole? So far we've had to run out to virginia or combria for any luck, but if the bite is due south of Rockaway, I'd rather go there. Any word would help. Thanks. JP
