Fishing method Fly Fishing
« Previous Report Next Report »

Well....I'm finally gonna post a report. I managed to sneak away today from my daily duties to get some much needed trout time in before this storm hit. I knew with wind, rain, cold it was gonna be an effort, BUT well worth it if I hit pay dirt. Boy oh boy!! Did I ever. I went searching for browns and bows in one of my favorite spots, and had the best two hours that a trout fly fisherman can have. I started with a hot pink BH pheasant tail...caught 6 or 7 total...all on the small side....switched to a Mickey Finn to search for big guys....caught a really nice 18" brown...14"rainbow. All in all I reeled in prob a dozen total trout of all sizes from 5" baby to my big brown.

What a way to kick off my season!!! And right before to snow to boot.

What is the rule about off-season trout fishing? I thought you couldn't fish at all before April 1, but maybe C&R is OK?

Year Round Trout

Season is open year round three fish per day, special regs. apply some areas. Its what keeps my blood flowing for the winter. Nice job on the big brown, I fished from 6 to 3 on Tues, from Yapank to Wantaugh and all points in between with no bites just to watch a cormorant gulp down a two pound trout right in front of me at north twin lake. Great day affield anyway. Little Neck Bay will be calling soon!
