Took a trip south to Virginia Beach to fish with my cousin Mark on his 42 ft Ocean "Reel Emotion" out of Rudee Inlet. Joining me was my pals Rob and Tommy, the usual cohorts aboard the AllyKat.

There was scattered reports of bluefin tuna amoungst the scarce Stripe Bass. Last week, the annual "Rockfish Shootout" only had one single fish entered, and it took top prize of $175,000.

We broke the inlet at 8am on sat and were greeted with thick fog. Tough conditions to fish in, especially with all the other boats out there, on what was a flat clam warm sat.

Took a few hours, but finally the bass showed up. We trolled up 11 stripers to 35 lbs using umbrella rigs, and paddle tail swimbaits on braided lines.

Went in early with the fog still thick. On the dock, a little 18 ft CC pulled in with a nice 180 lbs BFT they got lucky with. Another boat near us had a 358 lber as well.

Went again on sunday. Still foggy, but still calm and warm. The switch was flipped around 10:30 am and the fish showed up. Bigger bass in the mix, with scattered reports of guys on tuna's, but we werent as lucky again. No problems....we called it a day at 3pm, as we still had to drive back to NY for work today.

Overall, great fishing, with great guys. Totalled 22 stripers over the two days, with the biggest fish just under 40 lbs. Gotta go back for the tuna!

Cant wait to do it again.
