Got an invite to get out with Smedfish on his rig, along with his bud Pat.

Stopped at Cow Harbor with my little guy on sat afternoon, picked up 6 dozen greenies from Phil as

Drew jr. was trying to buy up half the store.

Considering the LIPA/Soundview ramp is still a mess, we took the ride to Huntington, and dropped in before 8AM. The slow ride out of the harbor made us miss our ramp even more.

Once in the bay, we were faced with easy 3 footers, so it was a slow ride to our first stop around Target Rock...25-30 ft. Anchored and sent the baits down...plenty of rocks and snags..no fish...not a scratch. We gave it 15-20 minutes witha few minor adjustment...but we knew what we had to do.

Go big, out to 11B with the stiff ENE at 15, and 3-5 footers, or go home.

Pulled the hook, and slowly made out way out, questioning our decsision once a in a while, even wondering will the anchor hold once we got there. Haven't faced a sloppy ride like that all season. 6 foot waves breaking on themsleves along the reef.

Found the mini fleet at 11B and set the hook at 50 feet. Steve's effort paid off with fish hitting our baits right away. Steve hooked up within seconds, as did Pat. I gave them both a two fish lead, before my baits got hammered.

Quickly, we had 6 fish on board..all approaching the 16 inch limit and released. The wind was kickin pretty good, as we were swinging on anchor, but it held us. Soon Steve's rod was doubled over with a nice fighter in the current. Drag coming off his spinning outfit, he brought the lone keeper to the surface, nice 16 1/2 inch male that tried it best to slip out and make it back into the drink..it got very close too...but into the live well it went.

We had action for about an hour, but once the incoming really picked up, the bite died. We tried pulling up on the spot, as well as dropping back, but it was evident, the fishing shut down.

With the waves not letting up, we called it a day at noon, with Steve's lone keeper, to go along with the 20 or so shorts we had combined.

Surfed the waves back in to the bay which was much better than the white knuckle ride out. Back at the house, it was clean up duty, and parted ways wishing both men a Happy Thanksgiing to thier families.

Thanks Steve O! for another fun time on the Sound.

ShadesGreat Report Drew, sorry to hear the conditions were a lot less than ideal, but that is Black Fishing as I know you ALREADY KNOW. At least you Guy's got out I sat at home by the warm fire and watched the Jet game even though I am a GIANT Fan. Well hope you get out again before the end of the season. I am having the engine winterized tomorrow. I'm done with my boat but hoping to hop on Osprey for one last blast. Hope you Have a Happy, Safe and healthy Thanksgiving. ShadesShades

thanks gentsup

Oh, I definately think the fish are still around. They just didn't like the current moving at warp speed around the reef. Granted, your gonna have to fish through all of last years keepers to put together a 2012 limit...but luckily, tog fishing is fun.Toungue

Good luckup
