Report location New York > Moriches > Moriches Inlet Excursion - A few Bass...
Fishing method Boat
« Previous Report Next Report »

This morning right around 10am I head out to see first hand whats going on and see if we could get a bass or two. My son Aleks and friend Rob were along for the ride.

East Cut - Hit the east cut and like I have been hearing the main channel is cut off. With bright sun it was pretty easy to see whats what and we were able to pass with no probelms just running a little north of the original channel. I had 3' to 4' all the way through once I made a quick jog around 5E. With the running tide I would guess that north pass will only get deeper and deeper over time.

Inlet - The inlet has filled in at the end of the East Jetty. I recorded 3' way off the jetty more towards the middle of the inlet. It's easy to spot. If your running a big rig stay on the west side. We ran around the east jetty to take a look at the breach from the ocean and had water all the way through.

Off for a little fishing... We had two schoolie's working the outside shoal with rubber bodies. Too be honest we didn't stay long at all so two fish pretty fast was fine with us...

On the way back through the East Cut we had a boat run aground right in front of us (they were in the original channel). Rob cast over a jighead and pulled back their anchor rope; we were able to pull them off with no problems.

Be careful out there and go SLOW if your not sure!

It's good to see someone holding a fish rather than a picture of disaster. Lately that is all there is to see on the NJ coast. Hope recovery come soon for those people.upupup
