Got a chance to get out twice this weekend.

Went with Smedfish on sat along with his son and his bud Pat. I stopped at Cow Harbor and grabbed a whole lotta crabs from Paco, and met up at 8 am.

Beautiful day on the Sound...warm temps and light Southern breeze. The fishing was pretty good, with Steve just putting on a clinic of hooking fish. Lots of shorts, sea bass, and the mother in law fish to go along with his lone keeper of the day.

At one point my line got stuck in the rubble. Tried everything to get it out..left it loose, tightened up on it...finally I locked the drag and put the screws to it...the boat at the same time pitched alittle...just enough for the rod to pop out of my slimed up crabby hands into the drink....ACK!!!!!!

I stood in disbelief as the rod with my Avet went sinking to the bottom. Right away, the guys reeled and jigged for it...I could've sworn it was gone..contemplating going swimming for it. Just then, Steve son Justin says he's got something...yep, he thinks he has it....nice slow reel up as his cleaned out hook is barely holding on to the top eye of the rod. I reach out and grabbed it before it unhooked itself. WHAT A CATCH!!!! I still cant beleieve he hooked it...dude saved the day!!!!

Nice day on the water, making some new friends, and having fun go along with an unreal fishing story..thanks Steve!!!

Sun was the AllyKat's turn. With leftover crabs from sat, Rob, T-Mac and Grover met at the house, and we were gone by 8am. We were greeted with 2 footers on the Sound. Not bad. We motored to our spot and set the anchor. Right away, into life...but like sat..lots of shorts...15 inch kinda shorts. The wind popped the anchor but it put us on another spot, and with the area now holding a few more boats, we elected to stick it out instead of trying to reanchor with the stiff west wind. It took awhile to build the life but slowly and surely we were able to each land a keeper tog. Nothing huge...16-18 inch fish... to go along with countless shorts...but still better than nothing.

Two days on the water, I knew not to push my luck so we called it a day at noon, and headed back to clean the catch.

Can't wait to do it again.

Trying to attach pics...not letting me, so I will add them in the comments section.

It was tough fishing in that stiff NW wind yesterday. Glad you stuck it out and got your keeper. Amazing number of shorts around this year. Good sign for the future.

Glad you got your Avet back..

I had plans Sat. and my Son had a hockey game yesterday AM.

OTW around 12:30, I knew better then to try and leg it around to Marshall Field with that heavy blow out of the west and incomming tide. Tried two drops around Target Rock with nothing to show. Sticky bottom, hang up in water from 8' -19' but nothing. Back in the harbor a few cocktails and large snappers for the boys.

Keeping fingers crossed we have light winds this weekend. Town Marina Boats need to be out of the wtaer by end of month. down

Not Justin it was Jesse the older one .I know we were going to get the rod back .Sunday was tough togging in that mess but we picked some shorts and 2 fluke and a bunch of seabass at the top of that rock pile in 20 feet h2o .Invite Drew on your boat and when he cleans it I always say its never been that clean even when I bought it . You know, after it was posted, and I re-read it, I realized I got your boys mixed up. Tell Jesse, my bad, and once again, a HUGE thanks for him saving my set up.

Gotta say, your ride was pretty shiney in the sun yesterday. That wind made it impossible to hear each other.well, that and being a machinist doesn't helpToungueToungue Yes, tough conditions. I was on the money for about 5 minutes before we got bounced off, and we settled on another good spot, but I think if my anchor held, it was gonna be one of those days.

Having the other guy trying to wiggle into the area we were in made me decide against trying to re set up..figuring I would've lost the area all together.

Hope you still got some crabs left overup

Thanks again for sat...see you soonup

Congrats on the rod and reel recovery Drew. Good seeing you out there Sun. We did about the same that day with just a few keepers from the same spots we caught almost 70 from the day before!

Sing it loud JoeToungue

Thanks again guys...I've told the story to the guys at the shop...they can't believe it either.

Bill, that must've been one rough long ride to the other side..although the ride home should've been better.
