I had hoped to make it out to the NF, rain or not, on Friday, as I had to take the day off anyway for a dental appt. Ended up having to go to the Dr to have a torn calf muscle checked out, so I went out on Sat. Beautiful weather, incredibly warm, and I had the bay channel to myself. fish joined me. Totally dead. Fished from 5 to 7:30, beginning of the outgoing. Used Krocodile spoons, storm shads, Gag's bunker plug...then chunks after dark. Not a worst fishing of the year. There is absolutely no bait in the water at all....the snappers are gone, the killies are mostly gone, and even the silversides were sparse. I was wading, and while the water is cooler than it had been, it's certainly not cold. My guess is mid-to upper 60's. Just as dead this morning when I tried later in the outgoing. I hate to say it, but unless some surprise bunker come through, I think bay shore fishing is done for the season (Didn't have the car, so I couldn't do the Sound.) seems to be the pattern that a good summer (fish-wise) leads to a weak fall, and vice versa. This summer was the best fishing I've had at this spot in years, with more weakfish than I have seen in my life. But the fall has been pretty bad. Last summer was awful, but the fall fishing was decent. The best fall fishing I ever had here were during the brown tide years in the 80's. No fish at all during the summer, but we had weeks of bluefish crashing bunker in October.

Guess you have to find another spot. Always good to have a backup.

I would have preferred the Sound, but, as I said, I had no car. But I love my spot...gorgeous, quiet, so even if I catch nothing, I enjoy it. I did find a nice large scungilli though.....
