Went out with my son Wed., on Dave Darrow's boat Casey J, since my son was on his first vacation in ages. Took a break from evening weakfish to go for bass on a great boat. Did a little porgy fishing, then went to the Race , where I picked up the first bass....probably the smallest, but it hit that bucktail at about 100' depth with a really heavy sinker, and it just kept taking out line, leaving me really sore after a long fight. Went to the Sluiceway for more bass (with blues mixed in, of course). Bass were larger there....I got one much bigger, but much easier to bring in, can't say it really fought. Then my son picked up the 2 biggest bass, the larger maybe 30 lbs. After dark went back to the Race...tried eels but only got blues on them. The bass preferred bucktails even after dark, released them having gotten our limit. All in all, a great trip on a great boat.
