Ahh now I can breath, after about 5 outings I finally got my first bass of the season yesterday. One month earlier than my first bass last season, and over 100 miles east of my fishing grounds last season.

I just had a feeling that with a big storm just starting up, and just coming off a new moon, this would be my best shot at seeing some action so far this year, my insincts were correct.

Got out around 11:30 am, just at the start of outgoing, and just at the start of the downpouring. Wind was only around 10-15 MPH so it wasn't a nuisance, and the rain was coming down pretty steady. Hopped around some rocks for 2.5 hours straight before it happened. My first and only hit of the season so far came when an aggressive 25" bass hammered the head part of my RM giant. Wasn't much of a fight with 50lb braid, a 10'6" St. Croix Legend, and a vs200, but man did it feel good. Stuck around for 2 more hours, until 4pm, but that was the only action I had. Felt very good to get that monkey off my back, its on now!

Went back around 8pm, top of the incoming. Now the winds were around 30-40 MPH, and sheets of rain were coming down sideways, the weather was not a problem, the weeds were. Fished until 930 moving around trying to reel in my plug without having weeds on it, but was unsuccessful.

Water looks filthy today so may give it a night to clear up a bit and search for some clean water tomorrow.

Happy 2012 season to all and to all good luck!

Sean
